Web2.5

Web 2.5 is a term, created by Web3 purists, which has been used to refer to Web3 projects that the Web3 community do not believe achieve the full level of decentralisation (an integral part of ‘true Web3’) necessary for an individual to attain true Ownership.

Jack Dorsey and Web5

In late 2022, co-founder of Twitter Jack Dorsey, proposed the idea of Web5. This is more of a publicity stunt and outlines what ‘pure Web3’ would be (see this post on Ownership for more). In reality: Jack is likely a Web3 purist.

Tim Berners Lee and Solid

Tim Berners Lee (who invented the WebX.X terminology) doesn’t like to say ‘Web3’ to talk about these definitions of Web3 based on Ownership (as he has his own definition), but the Solid Project he is working on, fits Web3; Tim is also a ‘Web3’ purist.
